Omega 3 fatty acids are a very important part of our diet. It is recommended that we eat food high in Omega 3s at least 2 to 3 times a week. The most important of these fatty acids are DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and are found in cold water fish. They are polyunsaturated fats that are crucial to our cardiovascular system, brain, and retina.

Calamari is "squid." It’s a mollusk that is related to the octopus and is also a great source of DHA and EPA. It has more omega 3s than both krill oil and fish oil and is especially high in DHA. The higher concentration of DHA makes it highly effective in promoting good brain function. It shares another advantage with krill oil in that it does not cause fish burps.
Calamari oil is purified and highly concentrated. Because it’s so concentrated, it has been known to cause certain side effects when taken in high doses. Some of these side effects may include increased depression and it could worsen the symptoms of diabetes and high blood pressure. It can also cause your body to produce too much gas which can give you painful indigestion.
It’s hard to say which is better between krill oil and calamari oil because they each have their advantages. If you have arthritis or joint pain or want to prevent it in your old age, it’s best to take krill oil because of the high concentration of EPA.
If you are experiencing loss of brain function or are concerned with your brain and eye function, calamari oil might be better because it has a higher concentration of DHA. Krill oil may be the better supplement overall because it contains a healthy amount of both DHA and EPA without being high enough to cause as many side effects.
